The Engineering Council of South Africa’s (ECSA) Seventh Term Governing Council has officially taken office, with the election of Mr TC Madikane Pr. Eng as President and Ms Marcia Madia Pr. Eng as Vice President. The new ECSA Seventh Term Governing Council was confirmed at its first meeting, held at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Johannesburg from 23-24 April 2025.
New Leadership Elected
Deputy Minister of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, Mr Sihle Zikalala, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of upholding governance principles as well as the significance of infrastructure development in meeting the everyday needs of South Africans.
The incoming Governing Council, comprising Registered Persons, government, members of the public, Recognised Voluntary Associations and Higher Education Institutions, takes over from the Sixth Term Governing Council, which successfully established a robust governance framework during its tenure. This framework, which draws on good governance principles from several international best practices, has laid a solid foundation for ECSA’s operations.
A Four-Year Term Ahead
The new Governing Council will serve a four-year term, providing strategic leadership and guidance to the Administration. During their tenure, they will work to advance the engineering profession in South Africa and abroad, promote excellence in engineering practice, and protect the public interest.
The Deputy Minister commended the outgoing Council for their dedication and hard work in shaping the Engineering Council’s governance structure. ECSA and the engineering fraternity look forward to the wealth of expertise and knowledge to be shared by the Governing Council as they build onto the governance regimes established by the Sixth Term ECSA Governing Council, to lead the engineering regulator that assures public safety.
