The Executive Management of the Engineering Council of South Africa provides strategic leadership and direction to the organisation. Led by the Chief Executive Officer, the team comprises experienced professionals with expertise in various fields. The team works collaboratively to drive ECSA’s mission and vision, ensuring effective governance, innovation, and growth.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
The Chief Executive Officer is the accounting officer for the Engineering Council of South Africa, with the main objective of setting strategic direction and vision for the organisation. The legal services function supports the office.
Mr Franscois Addolf Engelbrecht
Chief Financial Officer
The Division plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial resources of the organisation. The key responsibilities include providing strategic leadership on financial matters, overseeing financial activities within the organisation, delivering professional and ethical financial practices, and offering an effective finance service that aligns with the business and the organisation’s strategy.
Ms. Nkhensani Mathebula
Council Secretariat (Acting)
Provides legal and governance advice to the Governing Council and manages the secretariat function that administratively coordinates Governing Council and Committee meetings, functions, trainings, Governing Council nominations, and events.
Dr. Franciska Bothma
Executive Statutory Services
Responsible for implementing the policies, rules, standards and processes that give effect to ECSA’s statutory mandate in terms of the Engineering Profession Act. This includes the registration, renewal, and maintenance of professional registration through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and the accreditation of engineering programmes in line with national and internationally benchmarked standards. The division consists of two core business units: Registration and Compliance and Accreditation and Training.

Executive Strategy & Growth
Responsible for the development and successful execution of organisational strategy to improve efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability for improved performance and provide strategic direction for the growth of the organisation. These objectives are supported by marketing and communication, stakeholder engagement and advocacy, business reporting and performance, research and knowledge management, and customer service centre functions.
Ms. Keolebogile Modise
Executive Corporate Support Services
Provides efficient and effective support to enable the achievement of the organisation’s objectives. The division's objectives include optimising operations, ensuring compliance, fostering a positive work environment, and contributing to the overall success of the organisation. These objectives are carried out by the human capital, ICT, business process improvement, facilities management and supply chain management functions within the organisation.
Ms. Matumelo Masongwa
Executive Combined Assurance
Provides the second line of assurance and oversees the third-party assurance reporting to the Audit Risk and Compliance (ARC) Committee and the Governing Council. The role is responsible for coordinating all functions that provide assurance in the organization which are inclusive of internal audits, forensic investigations, whistleblowing, ethics and compliance, Quality Assurance and Enterprise-wide Risk.
Mr. Edmund Nxumalo
Executive Improper Conduct & Enforcement
Responsible for handling complaints of alleged improper conduct against Registered Persons; conducting investigations into allegations of improper conduct by Registered Persons; enforcing the Engineering Professions Act, ECSA gazetted rules including Identification of Engineering Work (IDoEW), ensuring due process, transparency, and compliance with professional and legal standards. The Division manages disciplinary hearings and implements all decisions of the Investigation Committee and ECSA Council in respect to improper conduct and enforcement-related functions.
Ms. Niniza Mildred Mtshali
Executive Regulatory Services & International Relations (Acting)
The department oversees the development of all regulatory instruments to regulate the engineering profession and manage international relations, adhering to ECSA's strategy, international relations framework, and policy. It further ensures that legislated mechanisms for the recognition of engineering qualifications and engineering competencies are established for the ease of mobility of engineering practitioners intra- and internationally. It further ensures the establishment of proper mechanisms for the monitoring of the efficacy of ECSA's regulatory instruments.
