The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) has partnered with the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) to host the inaugural ECSA SAICE Engineering Symposium from 25-26 March 2026 at the Galleria in Sandton. Announced on 20 October 2025, the symposium positions engineering as a catalyst for sustainable development.
Engineering for Sustainable Development
With SAICE marking over 120 years of professional contribution and ECSA upholding its statutory responsibility for the engineering profession, the collaboration represents a significant step towards strengthening the role of engineering in national development and continental progress. Anchored under the theme “Engineering for Sustainable Development: Empowering Innovation, Inclusion, and Impact”, the symposium will convene over 300 delegates from South Africa, the African continent, and abroad, including government, state-owned entities, voluntary associations, academia, industry leaders, and students.
The first of its kind for the engineering fraternity, this landmark gathering is designed to:
- Address shared challenges such as climate resilience, water security, sustainable infrastructure, and energy transitions;
- Explore the future of engineering through digital transformation, smart cities, ethics in governance, and the evolving skills landscape; and
- Advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through practical, scalable solutions.

Awards Evening and Fundraising Golf Day
The two-day programme will close with the Engineering Industry Awards Evening, which seeks to shine a spotlight on individuals and organisations making an enduring contribution to the profession, setting benchmarks for excellence, transformation, and innovation.
On 27 March 2026, the annual Fundraising Golf Day will be held at Randpark Golf Club, providing an opportunity for organisations and stakeholders to sow a seed into the lives of engineering students who are financially strained, as well as to support women in engineering programmes.
