The Engineering Council of South Africa’s (ECSA) Sixth Term Council President, Eng. Refilwe Buthelezi, has been announced President-Elect and a member of the Executive Board of the Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO) for the period 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2024, and subsequently President for 2024 to 2026.
A first for South Africa as FAEO President-Elect
Her election, the first for South Africa on international and African multilateral partnerships, positions the country within the engineering industry as one whose engineering standards, practices and education are on par with international ones.
The election, which is consistent with ECSA’s International Relations Framework, strengthens ECSA’s position on both international and African engineering bodies. FAEO represents the African engineering agenda on the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), the global overarching body of the engineering profession, which brings together national engineering institutions from over 100 countries and represents over 30 million engineers.
Eng. Buthelezi will be sworn in as a member of the new Executive Board in January 2023.
