The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) has dismissed its suspended Chief Executive Officer, Mr Sipho Madonsela, following a disciplinary enquiry. According to the statement, “The Engineering Council of South Africa’s (ECSA) Sixth Term Council at a special meeting held on Thursday, 17 February 2022 unanimously adopted the dismissal of suspended Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Sipho Madonsela”.
The ECSA CEO dismissed after a disciplinary process
The dismissal followed Mr Madonsela’s suspension in June 2021 for alleged misconduct. The disciplinary hearing was conducted by independent Advocate Nazeer Cassim SC, who recommended not only the termination of employment but also that ECSA “forward his findings to the relevant authorities to avoid Mr Madonsela occupying a position as a director or senior employee in any similar entity”.
Leadership during the transition
Boitumelo Mokgory will serve as Acting CEO while ECSA undertakes the recruitment process for a permanent replacement. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to organisational values including “professionalism, accountability to the public and profession” and transparent communication.
