ECSA to Investigate cause of Roodepoort Building Collapse

The Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) has expressed shock and concern following the death of a builder after the collapse of a building under construction in Roodepoort this morning.

A team of experts will be dispatched to the scene of the collapse to establish if any registered professional engineers were involved and investigate their professional conduct as well as establish what could have led to the collapse of the structure.

The Council has called on all engineering firms especially those involved in the construction of roads, bridges and buildings to ensure all safety checks and standards are in place and that no lives are at risk during and after the construction of such structures.

According to the Engineering Profession Act, 2000, it is council’s mandatory responsibility to promote public safety, health and interests in relation to actions of persons registered with it.
