Registration: New Registration Systems

 New Registration System

Scope and Status

The ECSA Council has approved new policies and standards for registration that will be phased in at different times for the various categories of registration. Implementation of the changes is a complex process. Applicants for various categories are affected by changes at different times. This page identifies the main changes and the times at which changes have or will come into effect. This will be updated as the programme moves forward.

This version was issued on 3 May 2013.

Types of Change
Intending Applicants must be aware that there are two types of change in process:

  • Changes to the registration policy, standards and process.
  • Changes to the method of application
Within each type of change applicants may have options. These options are described on the Registration process page for those categories.

ECSA has twelve categories of registration as well as various registrations mechanisms under international agreements. In addition, certain applicants must apply for educational evaluation. The two types of changes are being introduced into categories at different times. From 1 April 2013, only the following classes of applicants are affected:

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Registration as a Candidate Engineer
  • Applicants for Educational Evaluation (previously foreign Qualifications Assessment)

Applicants in these categories are advised to consult the Registration Process Page.

In view of the complexity of the changes, a Step-by-step Guide to applying for registration has been developed. The various documents needed by different classes of applicants are available via hyperlinks the guide. This guide details the current process (and options within the process, where these exist) for each category of registration.

ECSA Online Registration System
This system is not available at present. The Step-by-step Guide details the present paper-based application methods. A further announcement will be made when the system becomes available, identifying the class of applicants who are able to make on-line applications.
